PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAMacro Wholefoods is a deli, grocer and cafe dedicated to organic produce. Here grocery shopping feels relaxing and serene, despite the crowds. No trolleys, no supermarket muzak, just aisles full of wholesome things to inspire wellbeing, there’s even an in-store naturopath. The Macro cafe is almost always packed – mums with babies in tow, health conscious young things and office workers taking a hard-earned break.
Take a seat at the communal bench and sip a chai latte as you digest the latest literature on the benefits of organic food. Macro breakfasts are a great kick-start to the day; try an organic house-blend coffee and brekkie sandwich with free-range eggs, bacon and truss tomato on toasted thick-cut sourdough. For something sweeter there’s wild rice porridge with dates, coconut milk, poached figs, rapadura sugar and caramelised fruit bread. From the counter you can select from an array of sandwiches, wraps and salads or scrumptious Byron Gourmet pies including gado gado vegetable, spinach and pesto or Mexican with beans, salsa and sour cream. Fresh, seasonal juices are blended for their nutritional benefit, with healers such as aloe, wheatgrass and ginseng readily added to your choice of fruit. Macro is a great place to detox and stock up on everything from herbal remedies to organic sausages, and, there’s one at Bondi Junction too.
