It was nothing short of a stroke of inspiration when Mark Howard applied to council to turn three parking spaces into the Lyne Park cafe. Now the aquamarine building behind the tennis courts looks across the park towards the water, and provides a little morning haven for joggers and dog walkers, tennis moms and ferry commuters. But the momentum hasn’t slowed with a BYO licence in the pipeline and an upstairs deck set to open in about 12 weeks for dinner and functions. This is no real surprise, as common wisdom has it that where there is waterside dining extensive development will follow. So keep your ears to the ground to be the first to try the new Lyne Park dinner menu.

The cafe is currently open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week. The ricotta pancakes are a great bet for brekkie, covered with fresh fruit and drizzled with golden maple syrup. Or if you’re caught between the breakfast and lunch menu, try this brunch item – a corn fritter salad, with rocket, avocado, crispy bacon, tomato relish and aioli.
