On Crown St in the White Horse Hotel, Surry HillsDETAILS
Le Bistro @ Cheval Blanc is a French-inspired eatery tucked inside Surry Hills stalwart The White Horse. Comfortable bench seats line one wall, and candle lit dark wooden tables and chairs dot the remaining space. A black and white wall with sketched-looking images of a white horse is the central feature, while exposed brick and a chalked blackboard menu add a touch of old-school charm to this casual locals den. FOOD & BEVERAGE
There is no more typically French name for a restaurant than ‘Le Bistro’, and the menu here follows suit. An homage to provincial French classics, the al a carte options include snails baked in their shells with aniseed liquor and French garlic butter, a charcuterie platter to share, bouillabaisse, and the obligatory steak frites (using Grass Fed southern Highlands Rib Eye). For dessert, it’s apple tartin or crème brulee – oldies, but goodies nonetheless. A neat selection of Australian wine suits the classic bistro style, but if you’re after something a little fancier, head over to the cocktail bar. FUNCTIONS
‘The Suite’ has the capacity to host anything from boardroom style meetings and presentations, to catered private dinners and cocktail parties. Located on the first floor, the impressive space features a balcony overlooking the reserve and access to the outside terrace, as well as its own bar, plasma screen and Bose sound system.
