Servicing a ravenous gaggle of university students since 1990, In Chan specialises in fast, low-cost Thai cuisine. Its small shopfront extends into a long, narrow dining room of 70 seats, combining images of the Thai monarchy with stainless steel furnishings and transparent chairs. With BYO and takeaway available, plus free delivery to the local area, In Chan is the Thai restaurant of choice for many Kingsford locals.
Start with a quartet of deep-fried fishcakes, tod mun pla, or the popular satay chicken sticks served with a delicious peanut dipping sauce. Pad Thai proves a popular repast with diners for its simple combination of rice noodles, egg and peanut, accompanied by your choice of meat, seafood or vegetables. The house special, gang kari gai, is a mild yellow curry of chicken, potato and onion for those after a taste of South East Asia that's easy on the palate. An equally popular choice, the pla rad prik, deep-fried barramundi with chilli sauce, is ideal for those in search of a seafood fix. Desserts revolve around flavoured ice-creams, and fresh and preserved fruit; watch out for the sticky rice topped with coconut milk, sesame seeds and mango when in season.
