Hawthorn is former Jonah’s Whale Beach manager Sean Byrne’s prized venture, which is brimming with modest elegance, and neighbourhood charm. It is a relaxed and inviting environment away from the hustle and bustle of Mosman’s main drag, where yummy mummies can potter over a salad, families can share classic modern Australian fare, and young couples can linger over a bottle of wine.

DETAILS
Hawthorn is a charming restaurant with a local speak-easy vibe, housed inside the heritage listed Federation cottage. The space has been cleverly converted into a cosy wine bar at the front, whilst the dining area fills the rest of the cottage, exuding a sense of cool-calm-charm. The clean white and beige colour palate, and simple design flourishes provide a tranquil setting, whilst the wine bar is a little more moody. It is a beautiful contrast to the main eatery with its leather chesterfield lounges, art-deco trimmings, and eloquently tiled floors and walls in brown and teal hues.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
Hawthorn delivers a modern Australian, seasonally-driven menu designed by head chef Marco Salvador which offers diners honest food that is light, dynamic and constantly evolving. A former chef at Bills in Woollahra, Salvador plates with a light hand and an eye for colour, which is seen in the tasteful entrée of confit duck leg salad with green beans, toasted walnuts, roasted baby beets and maple dressing. For main course dine on the likes of yellowfin tuna nicoise salad, with green beans, kipfler potatoes, olives, eggs and pickled Spanish onion, popular with yummy mummy types. For a more hearty meal try the pan-fried spatchcock with wilted baby spinach or the char-grilled ribeye steak with classic shoestring fries. Opt for the pavlova with clotted cream and strawberries for a delectable dessert, or simply a daily baked cookie for a sneaky treat. Sommelier Michael Cooke has put together an interesting list of local and international drops from the famed cellar, where a third of the wines are available by the glass.

Hawthorn Mosman is one of the most relaxed and eclectic venues in Mosman, which is perfectly suited for private functions. With a range of spaces and flexible menus by head chef Marco Salvador, Hawthorn Mosman caters for events from 4 to 74 people.
