LOCATIONLocated in the heart of both Crows Nest and Kirribilli, yet nestled away from the rush of the main strip, Garfish provides the ultimate al-fresco dining experience.
DETAILSFurther enhanced by the freshest seafood and the friendly and attentive staff, Garfish has become a Sydney institution. The mix-and-match blackboard specials allow diners both autonomy in their meal selection and a guarantee of Sydney’s freshest seafood.
FOOD & BEVERAGEBoth Garfish restaurants offer breakfast, lunch and dinner in addition to a take-away menu with all the favourites, including fish and chips and salt and chilli squid. Their breakfast menu offers traditional fare and some seafood inspired dishes. Lunch and dinner features a wide variety of dishes from the menu or the option to pick from the blackboard specials. The mix and match blackboard selection allows you access to Sydney’s freshest fish from leading suppliers and markets. You decide how the fish is cooked (panfried, grilled, spiced to mention just a few) and choose the garnish. These range from a simple garnish of lemon and tartare to extravagant sautéed potatoes with peas, pancetta and cod roe butter. The commitment to the freshest fish often leads to lesser known fish being featured such as skate (which you can have panfried or spiced) or a roasted golden trevally. This unique opportunity to have your choice of fresh and unusual seafood prepared by the experts makes Garfish a standout among Sydney’s seafood restaurants.
PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIAFar from your average fish and chippery, the name Garfish has become synonymous with fresh seafood cooked in an array of tantalising styles at prices that won’t break the bank. The team at Garfish have built up quite the little seafood empire on Sydney’s north side over the past few years through an obvious commitment to quality and plenty of hard work. The Kirribilli restaurant was the first Garfish in town and after five years it’s still swimming as strong as the sort of fish that John West would be loathe to reject. The restaurant is all clean lines and chic simplicity, dominated by an elevated open plan kitchen where chefs busily work their magic and a blackboard menu declaring the ideal way to enjoy the specials of the day.
Breakfast on the weekends at Garfish is a bustling affair, so make sure you get there early to nab yourself a table on the street and do a bit of people watching. The Belgian waffles are iconic and though you can get bacon, eggs and the like it’s worth it to stick with the seafood theme and start your day with a spanner crab omelette or the potato and salt cod pikelet. Lunch and dinner sees the menu switch over to a showcase of spectacular seafood creations; begin with crisp fried zucchini flowers stuffed with crab, salt cod and scallops or a few freshly shucked oysters in a range of styles. The snapper pie with roasted garlic, broccolini and soubise sauce or the aromatic kingfish curry will hit the spot for a main course and those Belgian waffles make another appearance at night time for dessert. Feel free to bring along a bottle of wine or make your choice from the mostly Australian wine list
