PROFILED BY DEGROOTSAs the first restaurant built on the former Fox Studios site (now the Entertainment Quarter), Fox Golden Century got off to a slow start, however with hundreds of people now flocking daily to the area for comedy, cinema, bowling and shows, business is booming. Upstairs on a corner, the restaurant is simply decorated and large wraparound windows look out over the tree-lined lanes of the EQ creating a peaceful ambience.
Owner Kevin Kam tells me about a type of king mushroom developed by a professor at Sydney University which was first cooked in this very restaurant. When the plate arrives at the table (served with steamed Chinese vegies) it looks more like tofu than mushroom, but tastes fabulous just the same. In fact all the food is so good that I eat more than I reasonably should. As is the tradition in Chinese restaurants, the menu is extensive and contains everything you could imagine and a lot you couldn’t. Choose from king crab, lobster, abalone, shark fin, fish, prawns, squid, chicken, duck, pork, beef and even pigeon to name just a few of the meats available, not to mention the different ways of cooking them – hot pot, sweet and sour, barbecue, Szechuan… you get the picture. Stop by for lunch or dinner seven days.
