LOCATIONOn the corner of Coogee Bay Road and Arden Street in Coogee – 15-minute drive to the eastern suburbs from the city.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAIt’s not often that you come across a venue that sports both stellar ocean views and wallet-friendly prices. The Coogee Legion’s Club, however, is perched front and centre of Coogee Beach, and elevated enough to see beyond the main street to the beach and the big blue itself. While the decor inside isn’t haute couture, it’s light, bright and comfortable with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly crowd. The balcony tables are highly desirable so you’ve got to be quick to snare one on a nice sunny day. Drinks here are as cheap as chips so order your favourite tipple, soak up the salty air and turn your head to the bistro menu.
While the grill section of the menu offers the essential steak cuts with your choice of sauce, there are plenty of other dishes such as veal and prawns in a light mustard cream sauce, chicken breast with mango and ginger, or a lamb rump with rosemary and mint, to tempt the wandering eye. Or take inspiration from the sea and share a seafood platter for two, which comes laden with king prawns, smoked salmon, seasonal fruit, calamari, prawns and fish. There’s also a beaut little children’s menu for the ankle biters.
