Encasa is a well-established eatery that has come to possess the cheery warmth of a home kitchen, with licks of jolly yellow paint and exposed brickwork surrounding the wooden bar. Plenty of hungry tapas munchers feel right at home here too, which is why you need to be sure to book ahead to get a table most nights of the week. It might kill off some of the spontaneity of eating out but the reward for your forethought will be some of the best tapas in Sydney.
It tends to get rather loud at Encasa, but this only seems to add to the buzzing atmosphere. Round up a few friends and spend some time picking and choosing from the menu to create a divine Spanish banquet. The tapas servings are generous to boot, so try to pace yourself if you want to get a taste of everything. King prawns in sizzling garlic oil and chilli, grilled chorizo, albondigas (meatballs in an almond sauce) and pinchos morunos (skewered lamb fillet marinated in Moroccan spices) should satisfy the most famished of amigos, but the selection of steaks in a variety of lip-smacking sauces and some rather excellent pizzas might serve as a distraction. Keep the meal authentic and toast your tapas with some wine direct from Spain itself.
