The Adan Barrios family are the characters behind Don Adan Coffee House and they’ve been coffee farmers for seven generations, so you could say it’s in their blood. The little beans have quite a journey to make before they wind up in the sturdy mugs of the quirky Don Adan Coffee House in Mosman. The coffee beans are strictly high grown on the family farm in the mountains of south-western Honduras before being shipped to Sydney where they are freshly roasted by award-winning master roaster and barista, Gerardo Adan Barrios.
The cafe itself is a buzzing spot, with vibrant aqua walls, a colourful ceiling mural and an eclectic collection of artwork decorating the walls, most of which is the work of the young team of staff. The door constantly swings open as locals pop in for a coffee to go or take a seat at one of the rickety tables for a bite to eat. The menu is a simple affair with a slight nod to the family’s cultural heritage; the Typico is a traditional Central American breakfast comprised of fluffy scrambled free range eggs, black beans, avocado and chilli, with fetta cheese crumbled over the top. Fresh sandwiches and salads make up the lunch menu or you can linger over the antipasto platter. It might be all about the coffee here, but the loose leaf tea menu is fairly extensive and well worth a read. You can take a bag of Don Adan coffee home with you too; just ask the friendly staff and they’ll sort you out.
