This beautiful bistro, overlooking the deep, blue water at Coogee beach, recently relaunched as a bistro/gallery space so now you can swing by and cosy up on the comfortable banquettes which line the walls or sit and admire the beautiful photography. Alternatively, opt for outdoor seating and drink in the fresh sea breeze while you dine on your favourites done with a native twist. By day, the casual atmosphere at Deep Blue is ideal for enjoying a plate of fish n chips after a cool dip in the ocean. By night this beach cafe is transformed into one of Sydneys most unique seaside fine-diners.
Not many restaurants in Sydney serve authentic native Australian cuisine, but Deep Blue Bistro does it well. Their six-course Outback Degustation Dinner is offered on Wednesday nights and is a must-try for anyone yet to be initiated into the delights of our native cuisine. It starts with simple damper bread with lemon myrtle oil and goes on to include crocodile carpaccio, Murray River yabbies, paperbark-marinated barramundi, chargrilled emu, poached kangaroo, and wattleseed creme brulee, with each dish matched to regional wines. This is one way to take a journey through Australia without ever leaving your seat. The rest of the time, the menu is filled with seafood and mod-Oz faves that are well worth a separate visit

DETAILS
Considered the 'other' famous beach, Coogee is a mecca for fabulous restaurants and cafes and deepbluebistro stands out as one of the best. Casual and friendly by day, sleek and cosy by night. Coogee has something Bondi doesn't - parking, so there's no need to rush your meal in the race back to the metre. Relax and take your time over a long, lazy weekend breakfast or lunch as you settle in under the big umbrellas on the terrace and lap up the sun and the smell of the sea on the breeze.
Alternatively, you can dine in the smart interior, with its sweeping banquettes and the majestic painted mural of the historic Wylie Baths. The mural of Wylie Baths is a conversation piece in itself, established in 1907, the construction of the Baths coincided with an emerging interest in seaside bathing in Sydney at the turn of the century. The pool has a natural rock base with sloping walls around all sides with a high walkway around the pool.
During the day, the atmosphere is beachside casual and at night, with crisp white linen tablecloths and glowing candles, the restaurant takes on more of a fine dining feel whilst still retaining the hint of beachside charm that makes this venue so loveable. After a meal, wander down to the end of the street for a stroll along the waterfront, which extends to Maroubra in the south and Bondi to the north. In fact the photo of the rock pool on this page is at the end of the street. A few laps
FOOD & BEVERAGE
The owners of deepbluebistro invite you to enjoy some of the best food in Coogee. Swing by for lunch and dinner seven days, or for breakfast on the weekends. For breakfast we couldn't resist the baked ricotta, roast vine tomatoes, and avocado with on a toasted turkish bread, but next time I think we will go for the poached egg stack of sauted mushrooms, shaved parmesan, baby spinach & basil drizzle.

deepblue now offers a special native Australian menu on Wednesdays. The six
course degustation includes regional wine samplers paired with each course and a native liquer cocktail upon arrival. $100 per person/ $75 without wine. Bookings essential.
