Caffe Sicilia sees the old world Sicilian restaurant serve its house-aged meats, hand-made pastries and fresh pasta with elegance and tradition. The Surry Hills restaurant truly fills the gap in Sydney for mid-priced dishes, but does so in fine fashion.

At Caffe Sicilia, old world Italy is created with house-dried salumi selections, classic cocktails, and a window into heaven – the restaurant’s open pastry kitchen where Sicilian pastry chefs hand-make crumbly, sugar-dusted almond shortbread, and pipe connoli shells with chocolate cream. This entertainment is admired from the tables, while waiters dressed in white coats and neat black bowties serve ever-full bread baskets to low-lit booths. Close to the pastry kitchen is a glass cabinet displaying the salumi meats, followed by a long marble cocktail bar that frames the back corner.

Some of the simplest pleasures in life are the best. And tonight we discover just that, with the antipasti of a fat slice of warm and gooey goat’s cheese, drizzled with glimmering honey sauce and sprinkled with slivers of toasted almonds - the sweet and milkiness combine for creamy indulgence. Delicate fish is folded into a parcel stuffed with garlicky breadcrumbs and crushed peanuts for another richly flavoured starter. First course sees vongole clams piled atop taglioni pasta, with petals of zucchini flower and basil tangled in between. A standout from the mains, rabbit meat glossy with a thick and rich Vinocotto glaze is given sweetness with the addition of plump sultanas. Yet no matter how soft the buffalo mozzarella-stuffed ravioli is, or the tenderness of the calamari tendrils, the buttery biscuits and velvety tiramisu continue to call from the pastry kitchen. Such indulgences aren't confined only to the restaurant, but can be taken home to be devoured, along with cuts from the delicatessen.

Having style, elegance, and personality Caffe Sicilia is sure to establish a firm place in the Sydney dining scene, especially as diners leave with fat wallets and boxes of pastries.

Food was nice but far far too long to wait for a bowl of pasta.review 14/04/2012

I have dined at this restaurant many times with my friends but last night something happenned and I was disgusted. After the meal was finished our bill was paid and we were chatting. The waiter asked 'would you like another coffee'. 8 of us dined but only 2 coffes were requested. As we were leaving we were called back to pay for the coffees that were offered to us. A mere $6.50 after paying a bill in excess of $500 plus a $50 tip yet we were chased for the 2 coffees. Wrong service - lost us.review 19/02/2012

My wife and I have been to Caffe Sicillia four times since it opened. Twice for coffee, once for dinner and once for breakfast. On all occasions we were very pleased with the food and service. The quality of the building, fixtures and fitting is all first class. The restaurant is a very welcome addition to Surry Hills eateries and we will be regular patrons in the future.review 28/08/2011

I would have to agree, I have been now from lunch and dinner and would have to say this place is now a favourite of mine and my friends, food is to-die-for and the service is of the highest standard. 10/10review 19/07/2011

Forget Norton Street and Haberfield, this is as close as you'll come to an authentic Italian cafe in Sydney. The food, the waiters, the furnishings - it's a joyous slice of Italy. Don't miss the antipasto featuring an array of delicious soft and hard cheeses and hams. The mains, like the surroundings, are unpretentious but excellent. And the bill is as refreshing as the food and wine.review 29/06/2011

Well done Caffe Sicilia! I loved the experience of dining with you. The staff were dressed smartly, my waiter fresh from Italy, crisp tablecloths and gold-rimmed water glasses - I thought I was dining in Palermo! It serves light, fresh meals on a well balanced menu. I couldn’t decide my favourites so tomorrow I’m taking my staff to lunch and next week I’m taking my Sicilian mother – the ultimate compliment! Will keep you posted with a most difficult to impress mamma and nonna…review 16/05/2011
