Are your tastebuds calling out for bouillabaisse? Could you murder some l’ escargots? Are you craving French deliciousness and aren’t sure where to head? If so you’ll be delighted to learn that the cafe and art store on the corner of George Street and Hickson Road in The Rocks have moved aside for and a new Français resident. Established by the brains behind La Renaissance Cafe and Patisserie (which has long had Sydneysiders craving and drooling), Baroque Bistro Patisserie is now providing the good people of Sydney with an all-day menu of delicious French cuisine.

From stripped-back walls to funky, clear red chairs, bulbous black lights and a large open kitchen, Baroque visually presents that it is deliciously a touch left of centre. Like its decor, the menu is a playful-yet-succinct list of entrees, mains and desserts which sit on one page, pursued by a selection of wines, spirits and other beverages. Among inventive (and undeniably French) offerings is the salade d’escargots, Asperges, pousses d’epinard, segments d’orange (a zesty salad featuring France’s infamous ingredient). If snails aren’t your thing, there are other options like a witlof, mango and poached chicken salad or a cheese souffle, to satisfy. For mains, the confit of lamb on white bean puree with green beans is incredibly tender and flavoursome. Although, depending on which day you come, the daily specials may be too tempting to resist. From Monday to Friday bouillabaisses, steak tartare and truite grenobloise speak out from the blackboard. But let’s not forget the dessert; after all that’s how the Charkos family rose to fame. The Baroque menu not only offers celebrity French desserts like creme brulee and souffle, but also a selection of truffles and macaroons. And with a seven day (8am till midnight) opening, your tastebuds have few time constraints.

Sanghev:

The best French food that I've ever had outside Paris! The absolute best part was the dessert selection.review 04/08/2011

My new favourite restaurant!! Have eaten there 3 times and everything has been great from the Duck Confit with Red Cabbage and Apples to the Chartreuse Souffle with Chartreuse Ice Cream. Its Tuesday so I am going back for the Cassoulet which a friend says is the best they have ever eaten and that's coming from someone who spends a lot of time in France so guess he should know. Dont miss out on the Macarons with your coffee to finish the meal - which is my favourite Macaron? That's very difficult because each time I try a new one I love it too but if I had to choose one Jasmine. There are a lot more interesting and exciting flavours but Jasmine is to dream about.review 01/12/2009

Its only been open a few weeks and I have already eaten there 3 times. Duck Confit with Red Cabbage and Apples - fantastic but save room for the desserts like the Chartreuse Souffle with Chartreuse Ice Cream plus Macarons that are the best ever. Great menu and great prices. Going back on different nights to try the specials as I hear the Cassoulet on Tuesday nights is delicious. Also working my way through every flavour of the Macarons but cannot decide if Jasmine or the Salty Caramel is my all time fav.review 29/11/2009
