Call into waterside Italian restaurant, Baia San Marco, at any time of day for great value modern Italian fare, best enjoyed on the deck overlooking glittering Darling Harbour. Pop in for a leisurely breakfast of frittata or pancakes by the water or while away an afternoon with a couple of wood-fired gourmet pizzas and a bottle of chianti.

Some Sydney-siders might regard Darling Harbour as somewhat of a tourist trap, but with its glittering waterside location and abundance of restaurants it’s easy to see why visitors and locals alike are drawn to drink, dine and play down by the water. Cockle Bay Wharf is home to a fabulous collection of eateries, with Baia San Marco being one of the best when it comes to easy-to-eat fare that’s great value for money. The views across the water towards Pyrmont are hard to beat, though the menu of modern Italian favourites certainly gives it its best shot.

The dining area runs right through to the waterside balcony overlooking Darling Harbour. It’s hard to forget you’re in an Italian restaurant; there is a definite Ferrari theme inside and the friendly staff buzz about in the electric blue stripes of the Italian national soccer team. Pop in for a leisurely breakfast of frittata or pancakes by the water or while away an afternoon with a couple of wood-fired gourmet pizzas and a bottle of chianti. The gamberi all’aglio, with green king prawns, garlic, fresh parsley and chilli is a great starter while the pan-fried veal and king prawns in lemon sauce with sweet potato mash is a huge and satisfying meal. Baia, which translates to “bay”, is open till late making it an ideal spot to dine after a show or harbour cruise.
