Demure down lighting and candlelit tables create a moody atmosphere offset by the large dragonfly lantern hanging at the entrance, which casts a rainbow of colours onto the roof. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows have been carefully considered to take in the glorious views of Middle Harbour. Born in Morocco, and raised in the kitchen’s of Casablanca, Omar arrived on the shores of Australia in 1987 teaming up with celebrity chef Hassan M’souli and introducing Sydneysiders to the spicy aromas of Moroccan cuisine. Following the success of his previous establishments - Souk In the City, Mosquito Bar, Dar Essalem Casablanca, Out of Africa and most recently Tajine, Omar’s current dining vision is to take Moroccan cuisine and fuse it with the traditional flavours of southern Spain.
FOOD & BEVERAGEThe menu trends effortlessly between Moroccan and Spanish flavours featuring tapas style dishes to share or more substantial main meals. North African Zaater bread is a good way to get the ball rolling with home-style garlic prawns to follow. There is a good selection of fish and meat courses with the likes of crispy skin snapper fillet with an orange and red bean sauce and mixed aromatic herbs salad. The spiced lentil potato cake and the grilled eggplant and haloumi salad will keep vegetarians happy. Afous successfully combines the sensual aromatic flavours of North Africa and the sumptuous, savoury style of Southern Spain.
