It's safe to say that Mark, one of three licensees of 13b - formerly known as The Safe House - is successfully fortifying good taste back into the vicinity with this cute little creation. A change of name has given the restaurant a little rejuvenation despite its previous style. Don't ask why it was once called The Safe House, now known simply as 13b. All Mark will advise you is, that name originally 'sat well' with himself, his partners and an already burgeoning chic-boutique-loving clientele. I also sat well at 13b. Every moment of my visit was detailed with delicious variety, original combinations and familiar comforts. It's also safe to say that upon first impressions (and first impressions do last), this lavishly renovated, yet humbly-sized dwelling, laden with sexy, dark-stained wooden tables and walls along with stainless steel, marble and Leonean brass finishes, provides a sophisticated 'sense of place'. It also emanates a kind of elegance and dignified intimacy. 13b is ideal for candlelit romanticizing couples or casual corporate lunches. Akin to a small, stylish locale down the back streets of Paris, modern Med-loving gourmands are drawn in by the well thought-out menu along with a fine wine library. An earthy, open-plan kitchen and bar also focuses on original and classic combinations of cocktails and rustic tapas-style plates.
