With a number of world class and nationally recognised wineries at its doorstep, the Canberra wine region is an undervalued resource. Many wineries also double up as sophisticated restaurants or quaint cafes serving contemporary fare or more homey meals. Lambert Vineyard is an example of the former. Resting high upon a hill with a panoramic view across country Wamboin, it is a picturesque spot to enjoy a light meal at sunset or indulge in a dinner full of delicious modern Australian food. An Italian feel creeps into the menu which is designed to match Lambert’s dynamic and diverse selection of wines from Pinot Gris to Chardonnay, Cabernet Merlot to Pinot Noir.

Specialties of the house include handmade breads and pizzas assembled with the freshest local ingredients and baked in a wood-fired oven. For entree there is a rich roast duck coupled with a moody Pinot Noir, while seared Asian tuna, to be enjoyed with a crisp Riesling, will get you through mains. For the sweet tooth the souffle is a consistent sell-out and the staff recommend a sweet and sticky late harvest Riesling as accompaniment. You can’t look past the location though; Lambert Vineyard is the perfect place to finish an afternoon of wine tasting and to reflect upon the delights the region has to offer.
