Expect innovative modern Australian cuisine at Shakey Tables in the Hunter Valley and you won't be disappointed. This restaurant offers truly adventurous food and presentation in the atmosphere of an old country homestead. Some twists on old favourites will keep you guessing so come prepared to step outside of your comfort zone. Haggis rolled in venison with pickled walnuts, Persian figs, potato straws & Madeira jus is a good example of the treat your are in for.Blissfully quiet, you will wake up to beautiful birdsong and grazing kangaroos. They even offer accommodation at their nearby Hunter Country Lodge, set amongst emerging vineyards and 100 acres of lush, native bushland.

I found this quirky restaurant very enjoyable. Welcoming, informative staff that explained the menu well. The art decorating the walls was interesting. The palate freshener between entree and main course did its job well. The food combinations, whilst a little daunting on the menu, worked extremely well. All the food was an experience for the taste buds. The smashed chat potatoes with sea salt and pistachio nuts were a joy. Dessert was so well presented that it was a shame to eat it. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely return. review 29/04/2011
