By the look of the modern interior you wouldn’t guess it, but Jonah’s in Whale Beach is the oldest stationary restaurant in Australia. While many places struggle to reach their first or fifth birthday, this year Jonah’s will be celebrating its 80th (although this Northern Beaches starlet has had some work done). Four years ago Coco Republic designers fitted out the dining room and breezy alfresco terrace in comfortable, neutral-toned furniture that is stylish yet allows the view to dominate every corner. The job wasn’t too difficult; Jonah’s sits on a hill overlooking Whale Beach so its view is the stuff of postcards.

DETAILS
There is a new energy at Jonah’s, one of Sydney’s best-known beachside institutions. Jonah’s recently completed 18 months of extensive renovations adding new suites, a penthouse, private dining terrace and verandah.There is an air of ease at the new-look Jonah’s. The atmosphere is friendly and the dining room as relaxed as the beach below. Sunday lunch is a quintessential Australian Summer experience; possessing a casual ambience and a level of service that is attentive but not excessive. Mid week lunches bustle with holiday-makers and locals who are rewarded with special dishes and rare seafood finds. Dinner is a memorable treat that begins with a sunset and continues with food and service deserving of a second visit.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
The new menu offers diners a combination of great ideas and flavours. Jonah’s food is without a doubt on an equal par with its cliff-top view.

ACCOMMODATION
With recently completed extensive renovations, this Sydney institution has reappointed all its 11 suites, including 1 penthouse, to incorporate sumptuous king-size beds stacked with duck down pillows and Egyptian linen, newly built private terraces, exotic hand-crafted furniture and fantastic limestone bathrooms. The Jonah’s experience is laid-back but luxurious, with faultless attention to detail and bespoke service that can tailor-make any dream travel excursion. Guests can enjoy gourmet room service, suites with no mobile phone access if they choose, complete block out drapes for long lazy sleep-ins and a list of private excursions and services.
