The Depot on Darby

The Depot on Darby is a stylish Newcastle restaurant that firstly draws you in with it's open plan dining, modern layout, rustic artworks and unique container bar. It can be hard to find a seat in most Darby St Restaurants due to over booking etc. The Depot is fortunately one of the larger restaurants that believe in a no booking policy so you can just walk in and take a seat with no pesky 'reserved' markers on there tables. Almost instantly one of there friendly staff pops out of nowhere with water and a welcoming smile. She tells me of the specials, which all sound yummy, then hands me a menu to consider my meal. Take your time, I’ll pop back in a few mins' she says happily then shoots off to services another table. I was bedazzled with the range of sophisticated meals on the menu, and the price was more then fair. Once I decided on what I wanted I closed the menu and looked up and there was the waitress to take my order as promised. What makes a good waitress isn't just the prompt service and knowledge of the menu, but it's also there personality - makes them seem more real and not a robot processing your order. As I sat and sipped my coffee waiting for my meal, I looked out at the lively street where happy customers entered and left the restaurant content with there experience. When the food arrived a waft of smells exploded in my face that got me salivating like a hungry dog, I had to restrain myself until the waitress had left after asking wether I would like some cracked pepper with my meal. The dish was to die for as it was cooked perfectly with fresh local produce and an abundance of passion prepared by some of the best chefs in Newcastle. Once I had finished, my waitress delivered the desert menu and asked if everything was to my liking. I would definitely recommend going to this Newcastle restaurant as it has excellent service, great food, fantastic atmosphere and is well priced - what more do you want! 24/06/2010
