Reef Restaurant

The food here was absolutely glorious. The oysters were outstanding and beautifully prepared. Our mains were exceptional, particularly the seafood dishes, and the portion sizes are much more generous than Sydney. I notice other people have commented on price but I think the prices are better than Sydney and much better than the Hunter given the quality. The location is amazing with wall to wall views but ask for a seat out of the sun if you burn easily. This is a fine dining restaurant so you'll be here a while. The low point on the menu was the desserts. We were here in winter and they had cooked-to-order souffles and fondants on the menu that were really outstanding. The summer offerings are a bit ho hum. The wine list is excellent with plenty of local (hunter) wines featured and a good range of prices. The down side was the service. The young girls were all pleasant and efficient although they didn't seem to know much about the food. The older male waiter was overly friendly for our taste and seemed to be affected by alcohol. He got louder and less professional as the night went on. It's my experience that most fine dining restaurants have a no drinking (or smoking) policy for their staff and Reef management would do well to implement this. 04/01/2012

Food is great, as is the wine selection. However, slightly overpriced and the service isn’t great. Took a long time. 19/09/2011
