Urban Food Store and Cafe

I chose to try this place today for lunch over my usual eatery and am still regretting the decision. Three people ordered on the one table - one meal came out within 5 mins and after 20 mins I had to ask where the other two were... They were only burgers mind you and was told they would be another 5 mins. C'mon - 25 mins to make 2 burgers - seriously?? The one person who had their meal was almost finished when the two others came out. So much for eating lunch TOGETHER!! I queried the notion that we may have all wanted to eat together as is the usual custom in a cafe however was told the first meal was a pre-prepared sandwich from the display cabinet - now wouldn't it have been common sense to hold that first one until they were ALL ready and sent out together ? My 27 years in hospitality would have said that was the professional thing to do.... The burger - well where can I start - over cooked lamb patty, no flavours, no seasoning and not made with any sort of love at all.... A miserable piece of lettuce with a large chuck of pumpkin in the centre that was obviously needing to be sliced and layered, a pathetic morsel of fetta and homemade rosemary 'crisps' that were chewy and had not even a wiff of rosemary let alone any flavour of rosemary.....and here is the kicker - $18.90.... What a joke.... Poor service , crappy food and clearly a business with staff that are simply going through the motions and not working with any sort of enthusiasm for what they are doing. 16/12/2011

Have been here for breakfast about six times in the past year. The first time I came here was amazing - the food was fresh, the service fantastic and the portions quite generous. My most recent visit, however, saw some slippage in my high estimation. Chorizo was ordered as an extra but they had run out so lamb sausage was used - this was advised as the meals were being served; bacon was ordered crispy but was not; the thickshake was incredibly thin; and the mushroom breakfast was served cool. The service was still great, with all the staff being very friendly and pleasant. Despite this most recent experience, I would definitely go here again based on the times I've been where it has been lovely. 01/11/2011
