Located in the Melbourne building in Civic, in the same location as its former incarnation, Anise, Thirst Wine Bar and Eatery is probably best described as a Thai restaurant in the style of a European bistro. With equal emphasis on drinks, nibbles and full meals, the eatery is designed to cater for the full range of dining options and diners’ moods. This feature is bound to excite diners who want to eat a proper meal as much as those who prefer to nibble on items from the bar menu or just sip some wine. Diners who place high importance on the quality and scope of an establishment’s wine list will not feel hard-done-by with the choice of a Thai restaurant.

The menu at Thirst Wine Bar and Eatery is Thai based, largely very authentic but with the odd inspired fusion twist – green curry with ocean trout dumplings being a prime example of this. On the more traditional side, there are dishes such as Chiang Mai noodles, spicy beef salad, various curries and desserts such as coconut and pandanus custard. Of great importance and pride to the restaurant is the fact that most staples are made in-house, including curry pastes, sausages and even coconut milk. This level of attention to ingredients is definitely rare and is yet another attribute that sets Thirst Wine Bar and Eatery apart from its competition. The wine list is large and well-considered, there are beers available on tap and by the bottle, as well as a full range of liquors, aperitifs and cocktails in one litre pitchers.
