PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThe Gods Cafe takes its name from the nearby Australian National University Theatre – the patrons seated in the uppermost seats of a theatre were said to be sitting “with the gods”. But at The Gods Cafe, you can eat with the gods before sitting with them. Recently named the ACT’s Best Cafe Restaurant of the Year, The Gods Cafe is finally receiving the attention it deserves. The Gods Cafe is often packed for breakfast and lunch – and with good reason. The restaurant uses only the finest local produce – bread from Cornucopia Bakery, organically grown seasonal vegetables from Allsun Farm, free-range hormone-free poultry and eggs from Lilydale Chicken, King Island cheeses and Blueseas seafood.
But it’s not just the great ingredients that have tongues (and students) wagging! Chef Maribeth Cole creates seasonal menus that change every six weeks; check out the new spring menu featuring delights such as cider-braised short pork ribs served with sweet potato mash and sauteed beetroots, or the leek and gruyere savoury flamiche served with a witlof and walnut salad. Plus there are the reasonably priced daily specials such as soup, salad and pasta. So come down to The Gods Cafe and dine on some divine food in the beautiful wisteria courtyard, or the main dining room lined with local artists’ works.
