LOCATIONIn the Industry House, in Civic.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThe Glasshouse Cafe has quickly made a name for itself in the Canberra cafe scene. This cutthroat world has no room for below-par food or service, and thankfully The Glasshouse Cafe bats well above the average. The iconic addition to the newly built Industry House has drawn plenty of attention; diners literally sit in a glasshouse while the hustle and bustle of Civic drones on outside. The Australian Institute for Australian Architects chose The Glasshouse Cafe as the location for their 2008 awards night, praising its light, airy feel. Lush plantings mask diners from most of the outside dreariness, allowing them to get on with enjoying the fabulous breakfast and lunch available from its midst.
Open first thing in the morning, The Glasshouse Cafe quickly and efficiently dishes out breakfast to those in a rush. Grab a fine takeaway coffee, and a bacon and egg roll with wilted spinach and chunky tomato relish – or try the fresh baked muffins which are still warm if you’re up early enough. For the more health conscious, The Glasshouse Cafe will whip up smoothies to order, or check the blackboard for the daily specials. From the menu, try a delicious breakfast of poached eggs on toast with generous lashings of all the usual suspects – bacon, chipolatas, mushrooms, spinach, potato and cheese balls, and caramelised onion – the breakfast of champions. The Glasshouse Cafe also serves a wide variety of lunchtime sustenance, from their “food in a flash” bain marie to a la carte fare for those with time to spare at lunch. Also check out their corporate dining specials, and keep The Glasshouse Cafe in mind for your next corporate function.
