PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThai Cornar in Manuka offers some of the most consistently good and well-priced Thai food in the area. Like most Thai restaurants, the menu here is primarily based on curries, chicken stir-fries, noodle, seafood and duck dishes. Duck is a perennial favourite at most Thai restaurants and Thai Cornar is no exception. Two popular duck dishes are
yum ped yang; roast duck with Thai style salad and lychees and
ped phat khing; stir-fried deep-fried duck with fresh ginger, shallots and black mushrooms. Vegetarians are also well catered for. A personal recommendation for both omnivores and vegetarians is to try the starter tofu tamarind consisting of deep-fried bean curd with tamarind sauce and crushed peanuts. In addition to the menu, there are also blackboard specials that may include dishes like crispy fish with Thai style green apple salad and tempting desert options like black sticky rice with Thai custard and ice-cream.
Thai Cornar is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Of particular note are lunch specials which are well priced and promptly served, making this restaurant an ideal choice for anyone who has to head back to work after lunch. In comparison with other Manuka restaurants, there is a substantial outdoor eating area which is also a favourite with lunchtime diners. The inside of the restaurant is intimate and subtly decorated. The most appealing aspect of Thai Cornar, however, is the tasty food. Without a doubt Thai Cornar is a fail-safe option for a tasty and well-priced meal and the sort of restaurant that regulars come back to again and again.
