Soak up that city feeling in this corner CBD cafe. The glass-encased, air-conditioned space is a welcome respite on a summer’s day, with outdoor seating for those wanting a breath of fresh nicotine. Single diners can perch atop a stool at the window, observing the human traffic between a coffee and the paper. Mooreish makes a good cup of Piazza d’Oro coffee, with owner Graham Vaughan coming from a coffee chain background. Once a rally car driver, this cafe is his retirement project and he has recruited Tony Kukulka from Sydney to man the stove.

Breakfast at Mooreish runs all day, while lunch is served between noon and 2pm. All menu items are available to go, and the display cabinet is full of sandwiches and other meals on the run. For breakfast try the pizza with sausage, bacon, egg, tomato and mushrooms; or the crostini served with scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and drizzled with garlic oil. All muffins, cakes and other pastries are baked on the premises. For lunch I’m told the salt and pepper squid is good, though I’ve yet to come across a cafe that says otherwise. This one comes on salad with lemon and tomato wedges and chilli-lime aioli.
