PROFILED BY DEGROOTS MEDIAWalk by Lemon Grass Thai any night of the week and you’ll see a bustling modern restaurant churning out happy customers with almost alarming efficiency. Renown for its friendly service and fresh ingredients, Lemon Grass claims that it’s often said that, “the dishes are better than those found in Thailand”. Such claims aside, Lemon Grass Thai has a loyal and noisy customer base – despite the charming decor and authentic table settings, it is inescapable that the restaurant is just a moderately large room stuffed with customers. Be warned – it’s best to make a booking to avoid disappointment, but the staff really will try their best to accommodate any spur-of-the-moment diners. For an indulgent entree, try the delicious gong taud (deep-fried battered king prawns with almond flakes), or some moreish curry puffs with chicken and potato. Ranging between $15-$17, the generous mains are sized to share with plenty of vegetarian options. If you’re looking for something more unusual than pad Thai or satay chicken, try the pad nua ta krai, a spicy dish of wok-fried beef with lemongrass, fresh vegetables and a chilli tamarind sauce, or the famous Massaman curry; a rich ochre-hued dish available with chicken or beef with potatoes, coconut milk and roasted peanuts. For a lighter repast, try the pad tao hoo boo ho-ra-pha, which despite being a but of a mouthful to order, is a delicious combination of wok-fried bean curd with fresh chilli vegetables and basil leaves. With a vivacious atmosphere and an authentic menu, Lemon Grass Thai is a great destination in the heart of Canberra
