PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAIf you feel like a Mexican feast, bring out that sombrero and let Francisco’s Mexican Cantina do the rest. Tucked away inside Manuka Plaza, this restaurant welcomes diners with colourful chilli-shaped fairylights which serve as both a fine introduction to what you can expect of the cuisine and as a mood setter for couples on first dates, friends catching-up for a chat and families getting into the Mexican spirit. The warm atmosphere is reflected in the staff who are friendly and happy to offer assistance with the menu.
When it comes to cuisine, Francisco’s covers all of the Mexican staples. Classic red salsa with corn chips, nachos and quesadillas make an appearance in the appetisers section, along with chilli con carne and tacos. The mains selection also focuses mainly on well-recognised favourites such as fajitas, enchiladas and burritos although adds some scope to these with house specials like prawn fajitas (fresh green prawns marinated in orange rind, lightly sauteed in orange butter with strips of onion and red and green capsicum with a bunch of sides) and
flautas (soft corn tortillas filled, rolled and shallow-fried, toped with loads of Mexican goodies and served with rice and frijoles). If you can’t make up your mind, Francesco’s offers platters which feature various combinations of the mains for your sampling pleasure. The meals are joined by blackboard specials as well as a range of sides (such as guacamole, sour cream and jalapenos). Finish on a sweet note with a rich Mexican chocolate mousse and don’t forget to accompany your meal with homemade Sangria.
