Curtin Greater Indian and International Restaurant has been in business for more than 20 years and has seen a generation of Canberrans grow up. It is located in the Curtin shops and although it is tucked away downstairs (next to the bookshop), there are ample signs at street level to make sure you do not miss it. However, being the long-time favourite that it is, most diners probably need no directions to find their way! The restaurant has a very welcoming feel and is decorated with intriguing treasures from the owners’ travels. It also makes a perfect choice for a large private function such as a family birthday as it offers a variety of banquets and is equipped with a PA system as well as audio and video equipment.

As its name suggests, the Curtin Greater Indian and International Restaurant offers a range of dishes from the Indian sub-continent as well as from a collection of other regions. Examples from the large choice of dishes include Kashmiri lamb curry, Madras beef vindaloo and the delicious and rich vegetarian dish kofta malai curry. The international offerings available include a range of Hong Kong dishes such as Chinese honey roast chicken and honey prawns, the Indonesian beef rendang and for children, the non-spicy choices of fish or chicken and chips. In addition, a less common cuisine that is well represented on the menu is that of Bangladesh. There are multiple Bangladeshi curries as well as the highly recommended sylheti aloo paratha (grilled handmade wholemeal bread stuffed with herbed mash potatoes, grilled and served with ghee). Open for dinner seven nights a week, this restaurant is a wonderful choice for a special family meal.
