PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIACoo Izakaya is a recent offshoot of Civic-based restaurant Iori, but offers a more diverse and informal dining experience than its upmarket sister. The restaurant owners explain that the name represents an informal eatery or lounge with a more substantial menu than a regular bar. With this in mind it’s clear to see that Coo Izakaya is designed not just with local corporates in mind but also aims to bridge the generation gap by appealing to exhausted shoppers and travellers, large groups as well as couples. Inside, you can find a moment’s peace from the hustle and bustle of the Civic bus interchange with a calm and relaxing environment, excellent service and the freshest sushi.
While the lunch menu is basic, the value is outstanding. Coo Izakaya offers a range of takeaway bento boxes all (in an expected Japanese manner) compartmentalised for your dining convenience. Eating in is particularly recommended as the staff cater to your every need, offering warm towels on arrival as a refreshment to cleanse you of the day. For dinner you cannot go past the extensive list of unique sushi combinations. The chefs are highly inventive with their range of sushi dishes and take pride in the presentation with all the accoutrements included. More substantial dishes, like udon and chicken teriyaki will get you over the line and there is plenty of sake to wash it down: a perfect break from a busy day.
