PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAIf Civic Asian Noodle House seems familiar to diners in Canberra, it is probably because the restaurant is modeled after the long-running and loved Dickson Asian Noodle House. 2009 marks four years of operation for this noodle bar and you would be hard-pressed to find a student in Canberra who has not eaten here. Students may love this restaurant for its prices, but they are by no means the primary dining group. When you visit Asian Noodle House you will note people of all ages and from all walks of life. The service is amazingly quick, the restaurant simple but pristine and the combination of Chinese, Laos, Thai, Malaysian and Vietnamese cuisines means there is a veritable assortment of flavours on offer.
Anyone who knows Civic Asian Noodle House will be able to tell you what the restaurant is famous for – laksa. Indeed many people claim that it is the best laksa on offer in Canberra. And with a large range of flavours (if unsure, the combination is always a safe bet) and generous serving sizes, it is easy to see why. Other choices include a large variety of wok-fried noodle dishes, stir-fries and curries from the various Asian cuisines as well as pho Tai and other lighter noodle soups. In addition, the rice dishes include Hainam chicken, roast barbecue pork rice and duck rice and all come with chicken soup at value-for-money prices. Although Civic Asian Noodle House has not yet been around long enough to have become quite the institution its Dickson counterpart is, the restaurant is certainly well on its way to reaching this status.
