PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAThe unassuming Barocca bar is tucked away in the corner of Civic, within easy walking distance to the cinemas, theatre, university and carparks. However, it is a secret locale, seemingly only visible to those who have visited it before. The knowledge of Barocca is kept by people who plan triumphant work events and gatherings. Specialising in functions, large and small, as well as corporate catering for all tastes and demands, the family team at Barocca have had great success at what they do. The welcoming interior is perfect in the chillier months, and the menu varied and enticing.
A veritable Canberra mainstay in the cuisine circles, Barocca has been around for 18 years now, and is set to be around for many more to come. Barocca maintains a healthy balance between being both a bar and a restaurant at the same time. After five, it will host some people with an after-work glass of wine, some early diners, as well as people picking up takeaway for dinner (it offers a gourmet-at-home service designed to make the next dinner for the in-laws a little bit easier). The extensive wine list is paired well with the modern Australian and Mediterranean themed menu. Highlights include fish and chips, risotto with a hearty beef stroganoff, and the delightful soft-shell crab, served with baby spinach, roast peppers, hummus and a Middle Eastern-inspired cumin and lemon dressing. Try Barocca for your next function, lunch, or quiet drink – it’s sure to please!
