LOCATIONThis sweet eatery is located in the North Quarter in Civic.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIABabar Cafe and Bar has been around Canberra for some time, but its location in the north quarter of Civic’s Canberra Centre is sparkling and new. The menu at Babar’s has roots in Italian cuisine, but this is not to the exclusion of other influences. So while in accordance with its heritage, risotto and pizzas are a staple part of the menu (as are pastas and dishes such as the
osso bucco), there is also a range of curries, grills, pides, cakes and pastries on offer. In addition, there is also a weekly specials blackboard which generally sits on the more sophisticated side of cafe dining with choices like “wallaby shanks” and seafood dishes. Also worth noting are Babar’s pizzas – generously sized and liberal-of-topping, they come in a range of options, including three vegetarian and the non-traditional (yet very tasty) “Mahour” – a tandoori chicken pizza that counts pappadum in its toppings. You can take advantage on Wednesday and Sunday nights when Babar’s has a two-for-one pizza deal.
Aside from its restaurant mein, as its name suggests, Babar Cafe and Bar also offers a wide range of pastries and cakes made in-house, as well as breakfasts and coffee. Looking towards the other end of the day, in addition to a wine list and bottled beers Barbar’s also has four beers on tap to satisfy evening cravings. The size of the restaurant makes it a good choice for functions and parties and there is a banquet menu available for groups of ten or more. The location itself is excellent, making Babar Cafe and Bar a perfect choice for a pre-movie dinner, as a start for a night on the town or for coffee and cake while shopping.
