PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAAntigo is no show pony there’s no four million dollar fit out to boast of, but, 15 years running and located smack bang in the middle of the city, it’s one of those lively cafe/restaurants that are always full of people. The bright and warm interior features pale lemon walls showing off an array of colourful Jeff Steinacker paintings; the stone and wood flooring, seating and bar adds to the cosy atmosphere. Popular with theatre and cinema patrons it is a handy and reliable option when you’re out and about in the city. Dine outside at the pavement tables, in the main restaurant or upstairs on the interior balcony.
Open for lunch and dinner every day, the menu is extensive and offers light snacks as well as more creative options. Burgers, salads, foccacias, steak sandwiches and pizettas feature for lunch, however you should really try the popular Cajun spiced calamari with tomato salsa and yoghurt dressing. There is a large selection of pasta dishes available with some offering an interesting Southern twist, like the Louisiana style fusilli (chicken pieces dusted in Cajun spices, pan-fried and tossed in a Creole sauce with a dash of cream). Choose one of the many wines on display in the rack behind the bar to round off your meal.
