PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
Perched at the northern end of Bondi Beach, it doesn't get much better, or more reasonably priced, than at North Bondi RSL. Its enviable position sports a front row seat to the big Bondi blue, which means, if it were any other restaurant, the owners would charge a mint for a meal. However, the Blue Wave Bistro, in true RSL style, offers up delicious modern Australian dishes at prices which will leave your wallet smiling. Step in fresh from the beach, order a cleansing tipple from the bar and bags your group a table that takes prime position for viewing the waves, dude. Whether on the deck or inside, stellar chair real estate is ensured.
Peruse the fare on the chalked-up menu, order at the till and collect your cutlery before heading back to your mates to await your buzzer to buzz. Prawn and pesto linguine with garlic, cream and chives is a hot favourite among the locals but if you need some iron in your life get your laughing gear around a grain-fed New York steak with creamy mash, wilted bok choy and garlic prawns. The Blue Wave beef burger with beetroot, bacon and caramelised onion is a hearty option, or go the vegie alternative with a pea and haloumi patty with cucumber raita. There is often a pie of the day made with flaky pastry or draw inspiration from the sea and tuck into a beer-battered flathead with crispy chips and tartare sauce. Like any good registered club, many days of the week stand for a special night.
