There must be something in the air (or the water) in Sydney that makes both locals and visitors alike crazy-in-love for dining on ocean-fresh seafood by the sparkling harbour. Not that you can really blame them. With views of Darling Harbour that are second to none, Nick’s Bar and Grill is a perennial favourite when it comes to waterside dining. Sprawling alfresco seating commands the best views of the vista beyond King Street Wharf, where you can dine on spectacular seafood creations in the open air. Inside, the spacious restaurant is decked out in natural, earthy tones and the only thing that will distract you from the sun-soaked view outside is the buzzing action that takes place in the open-plan kitchen.
Order a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and kick back to revel in a definitive Sydney dining experience. Start with some oysters, which are freshly shucked to order and can be dressed in either Kilpatrick or Mornay sauces or served natural. Glazed barbecued octopus salad with an orange and chilli dressing hints at the Mediterranean inspiration behind the menu while a chilled fresh lobster with a citrus asparagus salad will remind you all about the good things in life. The towering seafood platter for two has earned its reputation as the signature dish of Nick’s Bar and Grill. Laden with mussels, calamari, prawns, lobster and oysters, its striking presentation is matched by the freshness of the produce. Friendly service completes the picture, which is a rather pretty one indeed.
