There are so many fabulous restaurants in town, wouldn’t it be great if they gathered in one place and allowed you to taste their signature dishes? Guess what? That’s exactly what they’re doing. From Thursday, 26 to Sunday, 29 August a selection of Melbourne’s finest restaurants will be offering 40 mouth-watering signature dishes for you to sample. Taste of Melbourne is coming back for another year and with it bringing celebrity chefs, cooking demonstrations, stalls of gourmet produce, boutique wines, cocktails and entertainment.
This year’s event will once again take place at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton and be split into six sessions, so you will have four hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and five hours on Sunday to stroll from restaurant to restaurant and weave together your own degustation menu. Also on the festival line-up will be a Producers Market (with more than 100 food, wine and produce stalls), the Australian Gourmet Traveller Taste Kitchen, Taste Wine with Gourmet Traveller Wine and the Australian Gourmet Traveller Chef’s Table. If you’re newly food-obsessed, this means that you’ll have a chance to speak with chefs and learn a thing or two as you stuff yourself silly. Standard entry to the festival is $27.50 through advance purchase or $30.00 at the door. Concession and VIP tickets are also available. Food and beverages will be sold using a special festival currency called “crowns”. Crowns can be bought at the festival and are of equivalent value to dollars. Each signature dish will cost between 8 and 12 crowns. Drinks will start at 6 crowns each.
