Event Description:
The Wrest Point Royal Hobart International Wine Show is looming large on the calendar, which means that winemakers will be busily bottling their wine and preparing to send their prize drops off to the judges in hopes of snaring a medal or even a trophy or two. First held in 1975, the Wrest Point Royal Hobart International Wine Show has grown to become one of the most prestigious and significant wine events in Australia; in fact, it’s the second largest wine show held in Australia each year. Last year’s show attracted 3024 entries across 82 wine categories, but rest assured that the judging and stewarding process adheres to a strict quality assurance accreditation standard, which serves to continually improve the sometimes controversial wine show judging system.

The show has a strong focus on that most temperamental of grapes, Pinot Noir, and judges will assess the largest number of Pinot Noir entries of any show in Australia and New Zealand. Wrest Point Hotel will host the sumptuous awards presentation dinner on Wednesday, 17 November. Tickets to the dinner are include a three-course meal and the chance to sample the award-winning wines. The Public tasting will be held on Friday 19 November 2010 from 4pm to 8pm at Hobart Showground. The wine tasting sessions offer a chance to sample Medal winning wines in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Admission will be $25 and detailed catalogues of results will be available for $10. Entry fee includes a wineglass to keep. Light snacks will also be on hand and available at reasonable prices.
