Event Description:
Topping off a month of girly frills and racing spills that is all part Darwin’s racing calendar, with the 2010 Carlton Draught Darwin Cup at Fannie Bay Racecourse. The biggest race of the season follows hot on the heels of another event which is deemed to be the biggest of its kind, this time on Darwin’s social calendar: the QANTAS Turf Club Gala Ball. This huge event takes place on the lawns of SKYCITY where more than 2000 people will dine at tables spread under a carpet of stars.

While the rest of the country enjoys sub-zero temperatures, the dry season is perfect in Darwin, with mild weather and cloudless skies, so it’s no surprise that the social event of the season will see hundreds of interstate and international visitors snapping up tickets. With so many mouths to feed, the staff at SKYCITY will be working overtime to put together a three-course seafood buffet extravaganza. If previous events are anything to go by, there will be tonnes of food. Literally. Last year guests were served 7000 oysters, 10,000 prawns, 500 kilograms of beef, 300 kilograms of salad and half a tonne of fruit. Tickets to the black tie event are still to be confirmed and include the seafood buffet as well as all beverages. The evening’s entertainment is yet to be announced, but past events have seen performances by Renee Geyer and Kris Kristofferson.
