Event Description: If you need to impress someone, this is the way to do it. Siana at Riparian Plaza has opened an exclusive Krug Lounge, which is partitioned from the restaurant and has floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the Brisbane River. To get in you need to book two weeks in advance, but for your pains (and cash) you will receive a personal butler who will serve you your choice of Krug champagne and caviar. There are three packages – the Krug Grand Cuvee ($425 per person), the Krug Rose ($600 per person) and the Krug Vintage Collection (for a whopping $725 per person). It gives a whole new meaning to the term “special occasion restaurant”, doesn’t it? To accompany your lonesome bottle of bubbly you will be presented with a five-caviar degustation platter.
On it you will find salmon tatake with lemon salt, black sesame, sushi rice and farake; and flying fish roe – or tobiko – wrapped in betel leaf with fresh sand crab and lime dressing. Tassie oysters with lemon and cracked pepper act as an edible salmon roe delivery system; sea urchin roe (ooni) comes on sushi rice with crisp nori; and ocean trout roe, finished with a chilled Krug Sabayon, balances like a Zen master on marbled egg. At this point you can move onto the cheese platter to finish, or if you’ve got the money to burn, order the extra course of sturgeon caviar served with citrus creme fraiche on potato blini.
