Everyone needs a little inspiration to get through the working week. ‘Hump Day’ Beer Tasting will help you work through the Monday blues as you look forward to a Wednesday night of ale exploration. Get your friends and colleagues together to celebrate the final days of the working week as you take to the Platform Bar of Grand Central Hotel in Brisbane’s CBD. Meet Matt Kirkegaard who will prove to you that there is more to the amber nectar than just your everyday lager. The beer guru will explain some of the history and interesting facts behind the perfect pint before showing you a few rare drops. Enlighten you to tastebuds to flavours you might never have associated with the malt, and must be experienced to be believed. With such complex characters, if a picture is worth a thousand words, a beer must be worth a few too, so start a conversation with your new ‘taste mates’.
Women will discover that beer isn’t the bland bitter drink they expect, while men realise the perfect marriage between stouts and sweets when the brews are matched to their dream dishes, sometimes even including cheese, cake and ice cream. The special limited release of the Marlborough Pale Ale which was previously sold out will be served to the thirsty group who may well be some of the last to try it. Enjoy the subtle chocolate nose and the soft flavour of organic oats in the malt mixture of the Craftsman drop. Citrus characters will burst from the Paradox ale whose bright golden hue has a refreshing flavour that begs for another round. In the casual gathering, you and your mates will develop new tastes and friends as you ponder the pint. As Kirkegaard believes “unlike a wine lecture, beer appreciation is a conversation, and a really good conversation at that!” Tickets to the ‘Hump Day’ Beer Tasting cost $20 or $25 on the door if still available and include five samples and light nibbles. Tasting kicks off at 5:30pm sharp and runs until 6:30pm.
