If ever Tasmanians have felt isolated from the big, red land of Oz, January 26 is the day to stand up, be counted and show a bit of Aussie spirit. Round up the mob and head on down to the Bellerive Boardwalk in Hobart for some dinky-di festivities and a good old Aussie barbie. You’ll be gobsmacked by the Clarence Lions Club’s spread, with a range of tasty tucker and orange juice available at a low price. The Club will be doing their bit for the community and firing up the barbie from the wee hours, so get in early and help support the Lions’ great work in the community. The Clarence City Council has organised a jam-packed free Australia Day program, kicking off with brekkie at 8.30am and official celebrations from 11am.
Once the belly is satisfied, cheer on both Citizen Award recipients and new Australian citizens, then sit back and watch the raising of the Australian flag and warm up the chords for the national anthem. All ages will gather at the Bellerive Boardwalk, with a range of musical entertainment and children’s activities wrapping up around midday.
