Event Description: With a colourful history involving flower and vegetable seeds, hops, apples and art (not necessarily at the same time) that takes it from the early 1940s into the early 1990s, the Brookfield shed has taken many different guises. It came to its current role as part of the charming Brookfield Vineyard in 1992 when the first vines were planted by then-owners Hazell Bros. The current owners, Peter and Helen Lundays, bought the shed in 1994 and have carefully restored it to both honour the heritage and to be a welcoming place for guests (and wine lovers).
This lovely setting is also where the Brookfield Vineyard Market takes place every Wednesday between 10am and 4pm. Here the local community sells its craft, plants, toys, clothing, coffee, bric-a-brac, candles and – of course – Brookfield Vineyard wine. So taste a drop of the vineyard’s Pinot Noir or Chardonnay as you let the bargain hunter loose through the stalls. If the shopping action gets you a little peckish, the resident cafe which is open from 9am to 6pm will see that you are well fed for your journey home (or for more shopping). And if you’d like to know a little bit more about Brookfield’s wine, pop into the cellar door for a tasting which comes complete with nibbles and a ten minute talk about the pleasures and frustrations of growing grapes.
