Journey Japanese

Date Posted: 12-01-2009

We love Japanese food because it's healthy, fresh and oh-so-tasty. Who can resist a colourful plate of sashimi or that nose-tingling wasabi hit? Tempura vegetables, miso soup, agedashi tofu and green tea ice-cream all have a place on the table too. Most people have a coveted sushi hangout - let us know yours.

Our favourite Japanese Restaurant is Sushi Bar Rashai in Annandale. The food is excellent and the service is even more excellent. The staff make you feel welcome and are fun to be around.

there is a little Japanese restaurant in Sydney called King St Sushi. Its small, not very attractive, but has the best chicken teriyaki ever to hit your taste buds. Order it in a bento box or simply grab a sushi roll for a quick take away lunch. It will not disappoint!

My favourite Japanese Resaurant is Sushi Tengoku on Anzac Parade. They have the best soft shell crab roll and scampi sashimi . The $3 scallop sashimi is a must try.

The standout for me for 2008 was masuya on O'Connell St Sydney.

The freshness of the sushi a la carte menu is out of this world!! You name the fish, they'll have it.

Prices are affordable and the new renovations are very comfortable.

Rise Restaurant is my all time favourite Japanese Restaurant. A funky, boutique style restaurant located in Darlinghurst. Quality and presentation of food is second to none. I have enjoyed the dining experience every time, recommending and taking friends. I even treated my Manager and partner to a degustation dinner which they too enjoyed tremendously.

Wasabi in Dickson, ACT, is the best for entertainment, as the Teppanyaki Chef is very skilled. Book ahead.
Iori in Canberra City is the best for authentic flavours and service, and very popular with visiting Japanese business men.

Saizen Sushi on O'Connell Street in North Adelaide does great sushi. For Japanese food Shiki at the Hyatt in Adelaide is brilliant. For a special occasion and some Japanese fusion I love Tetsuya's in Sydney.

In Sydney for overall gourmet Japanese experience, it's Tetsuya even though it's French inspired. For a night in town with great service and ambience, it's Azuma in Chifley Square. For sashimi and sushi, it has to be Makoto in Chatswood for the varieties and freshness. For value for money for the degustation menu, it's Rise Japanese Restaurant in Darlinghurst.

'Cheers'in Subiaco, Perth is a little gem. You can either sit at standard table or take your shoes off and sit at a japanese style raised platform. The Sashimi is excellent and so is the rest of the fare that they serve. Prices are extremely reasonable and it's B.Y.O. and takeaway if you prefer.
